Marine Protected Areas are used throughout the world as a way of protecting portions of the sea from exploitation. They create ‘breathing spaces’ under the water where wildlife has a chance regenerate.

Doug actively supports the promotion and development of Marine Protected Areas. In particular Doug has supported the Community of Arran, on the west coast of Scotland, who campaigned to have a small piece of seabed protected in Lamlash bay. It is at present the only piece of fully protected marine environment in the United Kingdom.
